Aero-TV: Expert Analysis By The Kings - Airman Certifications Standards 2016

Aeronautical Decision-Making and Risk Management Now Flow Into Aviation Training…

While at EAA AirVenture 2016, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, heard a lot of talk about the new FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS). He decided to go to a world-renowned and respected source on such issues, and met up with John and Martha King, the Co-Owners of King Schools.

John King starts off by saying that it’s not unusual for people who have done something the same way for many years to be negative towards change. However, he continues, the purpose of the new system is to create a pilot who is risk aware, a pilot who knows what is about to happen, and knows how the risk can be mitigated.

In the video, John goes on to list a number of reasons that the ACS could be a better deal in the long run. And as you listen to a John explain his views, it may take you back to the days when you used King Schools videos for pilot training.

Just like their training videos, Martha King joins in on the conversation to remind us that the maneuvers performed on the practical test, and the standards by which they are judged, have not changed. However, she says, the ACS provides us a guided way to evaluate both maneuvering the airplane and making appropriate aeronautical decisions in a more standard and directed manner.

Here’s the deal, if you’re interested in what it takes to pass a knowledge test and a practical examination under the new ACS testing criteria, this video provides a lot of useful information.
