Argument Over Airplane Parts Ends In Gunfire

New Smyrna Beach, FL, Man Charged With Attempted Murder

An argument over airplane parts in Edgewater, FL wound up with one man arrested on charges of attempted murder.

Leyva Volusia County Corrections Mug Shot

Jose Louis Leyva, 38, reportedly got into an argument over the phone with Remy Colin over some airplane parts missing from one of three aircraft owned by Colin. The Daytona Beach News Journal reports that, according to the arrest report, the two argued over the parts late in the afternoon on the phone, then both men drove to Massey Air Park (X50) in Edgewater where the airplanes were hangared. Colin told police that when he arrived, Leyva had a wrench in his hand and was "acting crazy."

Colin said he approached Leyva thinking he could be reasoned with when Leyva pulled the gun, pointed it at Colin, and threatened to kill him. Police said one shot was fired, and then Leyva swung the wrench at Colin, who said he was uninjured "because I moved."

Colin owns Flight Training Express based at Massey Air Park. Leyva was charged with attempted murder with intent to kill and aggravated battery. Jail records show he was released after posting $27,500 bail.
