Air Methods' Gets An STC

Eurocopter BK117 Emergency Medical Interior Approved

From Air Methods...

Air Methods Corporation Thursday said it's received FAA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) on an upgraded emergency medical interior for the Eurocopter BK117 helicopter.

The BK117 is a twin-engine aircraft capable of transporting two patients at speeds up to 140 knots. There are currently 220 BK117 helicopters providing air medical transport service throughout the world, with 120 of those operating in the US

The certified configuration incorporates modular equipment installations that allow the customer to order the aircraft with specific equipment to meet its needs, while providing the ability to reconfigure the aircraft based upon mission requirements.

"This EMS interior reflects the latest in emergency medical care technology applied to a proven aircraft, the BK117," commented Arthur Torwirt, Vice President of Air Methods Products Division.

The first BK117 aircraft equipped with this certified system has been delivered to EastCare, a critical care air and ground transport service based at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina. The Products Division has four additional aircraft operated on behalf of Air Methods' customers scheduled for conversion with this system over the next 12 months.
