UPS Opens New Global Aviation Training Center

Four Full-Motion Sims Operational At The Kentucky Facility

UPS has opened its new Global Aviation Training Center near its Worldport facility south of Louisville, KY on Thursday. The freight hauler has invested in four full-motion flight training devices for pilot training.

Television station WDRB reports that, according to UPS, the simulators cost about $10 million each, and the company has recently acquired three additional sims. They have been installed in the 28,000-square-foot training center that has been under construction for eight months.

UPS Strategic Communications Director Mike Mangeot told the station that the company has hired several hundred pilots over the past few years, and is also adding aircraft to its fleet. "Primarily 767s and 747s" in an effort to increase capacity worldwide.

New UPS pilots will train on the simulators for about two months, according to the report. Some 75-80 percent of training is spent in the sims, the company says.
