New Airline Group Emerges In Europe

Bmi Regional And Loganair Join Forces Under New Holding Company

Two regional carriers in Europe have united under a single holding group run by CEO Peter Simpson.

Buying Business Travel reports that the Bmi Regional and Loganair have come together under the umbrella of Airline Investments Limited (AIL). The holding group is led by Simpson.

AIL said that the two carriers will continue to operate as distinct brands. The combined group will operate 46 aircraft on 47 routes across 10 countries. It will employ 960 people and serve approximately 1.5 million passengers per year.

Bmi operates an all-jet fleet of 18 Embraer 135 and 145 aircraft. Loganair has 28 airplanes and serves routes that connect Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles to destinations in Scotland.

Loganair also flies other short-haul routes from its bases at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Kirkwall and Norwich.

“The opportunity to run the AIL Group, building on the turnaround program at Bmi regional and the continued success of Loganair is very exciting," Simpson said. He has overseen the launch of seven new European routes for Bmi.
