GE Aerospace Pouring $1B Into U.S. Aviation Manufacturing

Double 2024 Investment In Factories, Supply Chain Ops In 16 States

GE Aerospace announced a significant commitment to boosting its U.S. development and production activities by investing nearly $1 billion into factories and supply chain operations. Nearly two dozen locales across 16 states will benefit from the funding that is close to double its capital investments in 2024.

The primary aim is to boost manufacturing capabilities, improve quality and delivery standards, and enhance safety as well as ensure a steady supply of the innovative materials and parts that are necessary to drive the aviation sector forward.

GE Aerospace is also investing in human capital by planning to hire 5,000 new employees in engineering and manufacturing roles to reinforce its production base.

H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., Chairman and CEO of GE Aerospace explained, "Investing in manufacturing and innovation is more critical than ever for the future of our industry and the communities where we operate. We are committed to helping our customers modernize and expand their fleets while scaling technologies that will truly define the future of flight. Together, this will keep the United States at the forefront of aerospace leadership."

The priorities for the company’s plans will be in these key areas:

CFM LEAP Engines: expansion of manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand. Investments will be made in Cincinnati, Ohio ($113M); Muskegon, Michigan ($70M); Durham ($26M) and West Jefferson ($13M), North Carolina; Lafayette, Indiana ($5M); and $200M in support of military engine production in Lynn, Massachusetts, and Madisonville, Kentucky.

Materials Production: expanding production of advanced and cutting-edge materials and components including additive manufacturing. These efforts will include investments in Auburn and Huntsville, Alabama ($73M total); West Chester, Ohio ($14M); Asheville, North Carolina ($20M); and Batesville, Mississippi ($11M).

GE Aerospace will also throw support to the tune of more than $100M behind its external supplier network to ensure they have the cutting-edge tools they need to reduce disruptions and minimize defects in critical components.
