New Technology With A Familiar Look For Experimental Market

TruTrak Flight Systems unveiled it’s new, low cost EFIS at the US Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL. AirVenture 2006 visitors were able to catch a glimpse of what’s to come in the form of a computer demo, but the Expo was the first time the public was able to see an actual working system.

The EFIS provides airspeed, altimeter, and attitude indicators along with a directional gyro with HSI and heading bug. What differentiates TruTrak’s EFIS from other similar products is the incorporation of round analog style displays, which simulate standard "steam gauges."

TruTrak CEO Jim Younkin notes the analog gauges provide trend information, and the digital displays above the gauges provide precise readings. 

"Most low-cost EFIS’s have vertical scales displaying airspeed and altitude. They are difficult to read, and virtually unusable," Younkin told ANN. "We wanted to incorporate round gauges, in an analog style that is familiar to pilots. We also flattened the DG into an oval, which saves space while preserving readability.

The TruTrak EFIS display is reportedly readable in direct sunlight, and features smooth, crisp, well defined lines.

"We take pride in the quality of the picture and ease of use. There are no sharp edges or "steps" visible," added Younkin. "The layout simulates the standard "6-pack" because it was designed by a pilot, for pilots."

TruTrak expects to begin selling delivery positions at the Lakeland show in April, with customers taking delivery before EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007 in July.

Final pricing has not been set, but the EFIS is expected to retail somewhere between $3500 and $4000.
