Afghanistan's Safi Airways Grounded For Non-Payment Of Taxes

All Flights Cancelled As Of September 8th

Safi Airways has been grounded by the Afghan Civil Aviation Authority for failure to pay about $16.7 million in taxes between Marcy 2011 and March 2013, despite repeated warnings to do so.

Airline Industry Today reports that, according to a statement from the ACAA dated September 4, all domestic flights are cancelled as of September 6, and all international flights will be suspended as of September 8.

The airline has been given a month to pay the arrears "through the previously agreed upon terms." If they do now, the government can "request seizure and sale of all airline assets via the court."
