TCAA Approves STC For CMA-5024 On Boeing 737NG Family

One Of The First Solutions Currently Approved To Introduce LPV Approach Capability On B737NG Aircraft

Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) has approved a CMC Electronics STC to install the company's SBAS-capable CMA-5024 GLSSU on B737NG aircraft for DO-260B ADS-B out compliance and SBAS/GPS navigation with the option to enable LPV approach capability. FAA and EASA STC approvals are in progress and expected shortly for all B737NG aircraft types (-600/-700/-800).

The CMA-5024 is an approved DO-260B ADS-B positioning source that may be paired with any DO-260B compliant transponder. In addition to achieving compliance to the ADS-B mandate, the CMA-5024 also allows the B737NG aircraft to take advantage of SBAS navigation throughout all phases of flight up to and including LPV approach, if LPV option is selected.

This STC is one of the very first solutions currently approved to introduce LPV approach capability on B737NG aircraft. An LPV approach is the highest precision GPS instrument approach available not requiring specialized crew training. It provides airlines with a safe approach into airports when ILS is unavailable.

“CMC is proud to introduce this innovative approved LPV approach solution for the popular B737NG aircraft while also offering a cost-effective ADS-B Out solution to operators to help them meet the worldwide mandates," said CMC Electronics president Robin St-Arnaud. "In addition to LPV and ADS-B Out, our solution offers operators peace of mind as it future-proofs their B737NGs by offering an easy upgrade path to emerging GNSS functions such as GBAS GLS, Galileo, Beidou etc.”

The CMA-5024 meets the requirements for an IFR civil certified Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The CMA-5024 is compatible with all the SBAS systems operating around the world such as WAAS, EGNOS, GAGAN, MSAS. SBAS augments GPS to provide an extremely accurate navigation solution that will support all flight operations from en route through localizer performance with vertical guidance (LPV) CAT-l equivalent approach. The CMA-5024 is compliant with and completely supports SBAS, from departure, en route navigation, and all SBAS LPV precision approaches, and complies with published Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) navigational mandates.

Future growth to GBAS GLS precision approach capability may be obtained by upgrading to CMC’s new CMA-6024 GPS/SBAS/GBAS receiver system.
