B-29 Doc to be at Decatur Airport’s Wings & Wheels

Static Display, Ground Tours, and Flight Experience Rides

The Wings & Wheels event at Decatur Airport (KDEC) in Decatur, Illinois, was recently added to the B-29 Doc’s History Restored Tour schedule.

The event will be held August 3-4, 2024. Doc will arrive at the airport on August 1 and will be available for rides on August 2-4. The historic aircraft will also be available for guests to tour the interior and cockpit by climbing inside through the forward bomb bay doors. There they’ll get to look around the inside of one of the only two B-29 Superfortresses still flying today.

Decatur Airport Director Tim Wright said, “Doc’s appearance at the event is bound to be a significant draw for aviation enthusiasts and history lovers alike. Seeing this historic aircraft in person will be a unique and unforgettable experience, and we are excited to have the opportunity to offer this to all of our guests at the Wings and Wheels event.”

Josh Wells, B-29 Doc executive director explained the significance of the tour saying, “The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour provides unique, one-of-a-kind access to the type of airplane that helped deliver the end of World War II in the Pacific against Japan for the Allied Forces. When people have a chance to fly in Doc or climb inside one of only two remaining B-29 Superfortress bombers, it brings to life the stories of the men and women who designed, built, flew and maintained these historic warbirds. It also ensures the legacy of the Greatest Generation lives on for the future.”
