Canon May Release Camera Drone

Would Possibly Be Targeted At The SAR Market

Canon may be looking at getting into the high end of the drone market with a $20,000 drone currently known only as PD6E2000-AW-CJ1.

The website Canonrumors.com reports that the new six-rotor aircraft will be fitted with the ME20F-SH super-high ISO camera, which would give the aircraft the ability to shoot in very low light. The website says that suggests that the Canon drone may be aimed at the SAR market. The camera, which tops out at an ISO setting of 4 million, would add another $20,000 to the price tag.

DPReview reports that last year, Canon made an investment in Japanese drone company Prodrone Co., saying that it would be installing cameras on the company's aircraft and act as principal distributor. The drone is rated to carry 10 kg, or about 22 pounds.

Canon Rumors indicates that Canon will be offering more details about the new aircraft at the Video Transmission Expo in Tokyo.
