Company Surpasses 1,000 Employees In The State
Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) has been selected by ColoradoBiz, a leading media publication in the state, to receive the "2014 Colorado Manufacturing Brand Builder of the Year" award. ColoradoBiz selected SNC from a pool of more than 250 top Colorado manufacturers based on the national recognition that the company has generated for the state of Colorado through its many programs. Specifically, SNC was recognized for the innovation that it has brought to the state, most notably its efforts to involve all levels of Colorado organizations in its Dream Chaser Orbital Spacecraft Program.

The announcement, award and the April 2014 edition of the magazine, read, in part, that, "SNC Space Systems is omnipresent in the current conversation about space exploration. The company made systems in the Curiosity Rover on Mars and is now testing the Dream Chaser, the potential heir to the Space Shuttle… Recently ranked as one of Fast Company magazine's "Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Space;" Sierra Nevada is continuing to chase dreams, with current projects and contributions to the commercial spaceflight industry…The Dream Chaser is Sierra Nevada Corp. Space Systems' cutting-edge spacecraft, which recently embarked on a battery of tests to become NASA's replacement for the Space Shuttle. It is a true Colorado product: collaboration between roughly 15 in-state businesses and universities."

"We are enormously proud to be recognized amongst so many deserving recipients of this award," said Mark N. Sirangelo, corporate vice president and head of SNC's Space Systems. "The nucleus and leadership of our Dream Chaser program is in Colorado. As SNC's largest employment state, we now have over 1,000 of the most talented employees right here in Colorado. That figure is three times as many as SNC had in the state five years ago and we continue to hire. SNC is supported by leading Colorado based space companies like United Launch Alliance and Lockheed Martin Space Systems, as well as a number of smaller and minority-owned businesses and the great Colorado University network. Our Colorado space partnership extends and connects into our national and global "Dream Team" now in over 30 states and several countries."
The award was part of the ColoradoBiz Magazine's 2014 Made in Colorado Manufacturing Forum held April 23, 2014. The annual event showcases the achievements of Colorado-based manufacturers and discusses solutions to issues challenging Colorado's manufacturing sector.
