Unwary Flier Digs Up Gravel At Airport

Well, He Did Walk Away

Police in Redlands (CA) say it may have been a case of mistaken identity, after a plane crash at the Redlands airport last week.

Police said the pilot tried to land at Redlands Municipal Airport shortly after 4:30 p.m. (PST) Thursday when, instead of touching down on one of the airport's paved paralell runways, his plane landed on a gravelled part of the airport and traveled for several hundred feet before its nosegear hit a ditch.

According to police reports, the pilot told officers that the newly gravelled area between the runways looked like part of the runway and he made a complaint about it.

Police said there were no injuries, but the aircraft (type unknown) was seriously damaged.
