AD: Airbus Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2013-25-07

PRODUCT: All Airbus Model A318, A319, A320, and A321 series airplanes.

ACTION: Final Rule

SUMMARY: The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2007-18-09 for the product listed above. AD 2007-18-09 required repetitive inspections of the upper support of the nose landing gear (NLG), and related investigative and corrective actions if necessary; and also provided an optional terminating action for the repetitive inspections.

This new AD adds installation of a new enhanced manufacturing and maintainability (EMM) braking and steering control unit (BSCU) standard, and adds airplanes to the applicability. This AD was prompted by a determination that previously allowed terminating actions no longer address the unsafe condition and that a new terminating action is necessary.

The FAA is issuing this AD to prevent landings with the NLG turned 90 degrees from centerline, which could result in reduced controllability of the airplane.

DATES: This AD becomes effective October 17, 2014.
