Skywest Airlines Pilot Arrested In South Dakota

Allegedly Operated An Aircraft While Intoxicated, According To Authorities

A pilot for SkyWest Airlines was arrested last week for allegedly operating an aircraft while intoxicated.

CNN reports that 38-year-old Russell Duszak was taken into custody last Wednesday morning after it was reported that the pilot smelled of alcohol before the flight departed.

The Rapid City South Dakota police Facebook page indicates that the flight was to have continued to Salt Lake City.

Rapid City Police Chief Karl Jegeris said that a TSA officer smelled alcohol on the pilot before the plane departed. He was tested and his blood-alcohol level was measured at above .04.

Operating an aircraft while intoxicated is a misdemeanor, according to the report.

The flight was operating as a Delta Connection flight from Rapid City to Salt Lake City. The airline released a statement apologizing to passengers for the inconvenience.

Duszak, who lives in Salt Lake City, was booked into the Pennington County Jail.
