Mooney Makes Emergency Landing On Florida Beach

Pilot And His Dog, The Only Passenger, Walk Away From The Incident

A 1970 Mooney 20F made an emergency landing Wednesday afternoon on Atlantic Beach in northeast Florida. The pilot was accompanied only by his pet dog, and both were reportedly uninjured in the accident.

Multiple local media sources report that the plane departed from Jacksonville Executive Airport at Craig Field about 1500 EST en route to St. Augustine. The pilot reportedly experienced a power loss shortly after takeoff, and elected to make an emergency landing on the beach. The tide was out, and he was able to land on the hard-packed sand near the water.

FAA records show the airplane as being registered to Vaughn Dobalian of Jacksonville, Florida.

Local officials towed the plane to a spot above the high tide line. It will reportedly be left on the beach overnight during an investigation, but is expected to be moved Thursday morning.
