NTSB Final Report: Zenith CH-750

Flight Instructor Took Off, Turned Prematurely, And Clipped A Fence With The Right Wing

Analysis: The flight instructor reported that he was practicing short-field takeoffs and landings with the pilot-rated airplane owner. After multiple takeoffs and landings on the owner’s field, the flight instructor took off, turned prematurely, and clipped a fence with the right wing. The airplane flipped over, impacted terrain, and came to a rest inverted, which resulted in substantial damage to the forward fuselage and both wings. The flight instructor reported that there were no preimpact malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

Probable Cause and Findings: The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident to be -- The flight instructor’s failure to maintain clearance from a fence during a takeoff attempt.
