Eve eVTOL and DHL Join Hands for Supply Chain Concept

As Industry Forms, Structures Begin to Take Shape for Future of Point-to-Point Deliveries

Eve Air Mobility signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the study of “key demands and supply chain characteristics” surrounding the former’s electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft operation in use for the latter’s cargo and logistics business.

The partnership, however limited in scope, aims to “explore and understand best practices for supplying operators and service centers with spare parts and inputs”, with particular focus placed on batteries. Powering the Eve (and all other eVTOLs, for that matter) remains a glaring issue to contend with for operators looking to run their aircraft around the clock, with little pause for extended half-day charging sessions. DHL will put some thought into that necessary battery ecosystem, like “the specific requirements concerning transport, storage and disposal” that come along with battery powered aircraft. Additional study will touch on modes of transportation, frequency, delivery plans, required logistics partners, potential staging locations for advanced inventories, infrastructure requirements and contingency plans. Building the eVTOL logistics industry from the ground up will require a lot of thought and clairvoyance, lest another industry end up with decades of irritations. As anyone in nearly any industrial line of work can see, the groundwork of the industry can lead to years of headaches, all caused by limited foresight when establishing their foundations. If the eVTOL industry can nail things on the first pass, everything will flow just a bit easier from there.

“We are transforming urban air mobility, which also brings logistical challenges. DHL’s expertise in this field in the aeronautical market and dozens of other industries, coupled with the innovation mindset of both companies, will be vital to ensure the safe and agile operation of eVTOLs,” said Luiz Mauad, Vice President of Services and Operations Solutions at Eve. “In addition to offering high-performance logistics, our premise is to reduce the environmental impact of the supply chain in line with our purpose of offering more sustainable products and services.”

“We are very excited about the opportunity to shape the future of mobility with Eve Air Mobility. Initiatives like this are part of our ESG mission, and we are contributing all our knowledge and experience to make this another great successful project developed by the Brazilian aerospace industry, with benefits for major cities around the world,” said the Vice President of the Automotive, Technology and Consumer sectors at DHL Supply Chain, Mauricio Almeida.
