B-29 Doc Stopping In Springfield In November

History Restored Tour Makes A Weekend Visit

The B-29 “Doc” History Restored Tour will be making a visit to the Springfield-Branson National Airport (KSGF) in Missouri from November 1-3, 2024, for a weekend stop.

As at the other 25 stops in the historic aircraft’s tour this year, people will be able climb up into the aircraft to tour the interior, crew compartments, and cockpit as well as book Flight Experience rides on Friday and Saturday November 2 and 3.

1,644 B-29s like Doc were built in Wichita, Kansas, at the Boeing Company’s plant.

Doc rolled off the assembly line 80 years ago in 1944.

It is one of only two remaining B-29s along with Fifi that are airworthy and flying today.

B-29 Doc will arrive on Friday November 2, and while it is on the ground, visitors can climb up inside the aircraft through the forward bomb bay door to look around and tour the cockpit of the historic aircraft.

Josh Wells, B-29 Doc executive director explained the significance of the tour saying, “The B-29 Doc History Restored Tour provides unique, one-of-a-kind access to the type of airplane that helped deliver the end of World War II in the Pacific against Japan for the Allied Forces. When people have a chance to fly in Doc or climb inside one of only two remaining B-29 Superfortress bombers, it brings to life the stories of the men and women who designed, built, flew and maintained these historic warbirds. It also ensures the legacy of the Greatest Generation lives on for the future.”
