AD: International Aero Engines AG Turbofan Engines

AD NUMBER: 2019-06-06

PRODUCT: All International Aero Engines AG (IAE) V2500 turbofan engine models.

ACTION: Final rule; request for comments.

SUMMARY:  This AD requires initial and repetitive borescope inspections (BSIs) of the diffuser case M-flange and, if it fails the inspection, replacement of the diffuser case with a part eligible for installation.

This AD was prompted by a crack found at the diffuser case M-flange during overhaul inspection.

DATES: This AD is effective April 12, 2019. Comments must be received by May 13, 2019.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 1,654 engines installed on airplanes of U.S. registry. Operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD:

  • Borescope inspection: 1.8 work-hours × $85 per hour = $153 per engine

On condition costs:

  • Replacement of the diffuser case: 20 work-hours × $85 per hour = $1,700 Parts: $48,300. Cost per engine: $50,000
