Drone Law Firm Says Part 107 'Off To A Good Start'

Remote Pilot Pass Rates Close To Levels Of Private Pilot Knowledge Tests

Remote pilot candidates are passing the FAA's new knowledge test at about the same rate as private pilot candidates, according to analysis from the Rupprecht Law firm, which specializes in drone law.

On the firm website, Jonathan Rupprecht writes that the industry is "off to a good start" under the recently-implemented Part 107. He says that the pas rate for the remote pilot exam is over 88 percent, which is close to the private pilot knowledge test pass rate of nearly 89.5 percent.

Rupprecht also found that the majority of those applying for remote pilot certificates are current Part 61 pilots. To date, Rupprecht says that there have been 19,619 applications for a remote pilot certificate, while 8,649 have passed the initial knowledge exam.

Rupprecht also found that TSA is doing a good job keeping up with the applications as they are filed.

The attorney said that it will be interesting to watch how the new remote pilots mesh with the Part 61 pilots coming into the industry. He said the hope is that the "culture of professionalism and safety from the Part 61 pilots will transfer over to the drone community."
