Wissler Biplane On Display At Ohio Museum

Aircraft Underwent Four-Year Restoration

A Wissler WA-6 biplane has been placed on display at the Logan County (Ohio) Historical Society Transportation Museum.

The aircraft was built by Bellefontaine, OH resident Clarence Wissler in 1922 on the second floor of the L.& A. Wissler Dry Goods Store, according to a report from Aerodynamic Media online. Wissler only flew the airplane for about 100 hours before crashing it in a wooded area and it had languished since.

The museum acquired the airplane several years ago. After a months-long search for the original drawings, volunteers had to fashion new wing and tailplane surfaces as well as new landing gear for the aircraft.

Now, it is prominently displayed at the museum, hanging from the rafters looking ready to fly again. It was unveiled to the public on January 17.
