Frontier Airlines To Shift Houston Operations Back To Bush Intercontinental

Move To Larger Airport Planned For July

Based on customer feedback, Frontier Airlines said Monday that it will shift its Houston operations from William P. Hobby Airport (KHOU) back to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (KIAH) effective July 11, 2012. Frontier will be the only domestic low-cost carrier at Bush Intercontinental.

“We’re confident that Frontier customers will appreciate the convenience and increased flexibility when we move back to Houston’s primary airport,” said David Siegel, president and chief executive officer of Frontier. “In particular, the great connection opportunities that Bush Intercontinental offers will provide our passengers with additional travel choices.”

Located 23 miles north of downtown Houston, Bush Intercontinental offers the most flights of any Houston-area airport – including nonstop service to Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America on Frontier’s interline partners.

Frontier customers who have purchased tickets to fly to/from Houston Hobby July 11 and beyond are being automatically rebooked on flights to/from Bush Intercontinental. Frontier will notify passengers who booked at FrontierAirlines.com of the change to their itineraries via email. If the reservation was booked elsewhere, Frontier will notify the customer’s travel agent of the change.

Meanwhile, television station WITI reports that layoff notices started going out to Frontier employees in Milwaukee on Sunday. The airline says it plans to shed about 446 employees by the end of the month. About half were expected to be flight crew members who would be reassigned to other Frontier bases. The other half would be culled from several departments across the company.
