AMA Drone Report 02.06.20: UAV Type Cert Proposal, AMA Coalition, Drone Sim

The FAA has announced and is requesting comments on a policy for the type certification of certain UAS as a special class of aircraft under our regulations.

The rule-making is being targeted, primarily, at the upcoming generation of delivery drone systems. This proposed policy applies only to the procedures for the type certification of UAS, and is not intended to establish policy impacting other FAA rules on unmanned aircraft, such as operations, pilot certification, or maintenance. AMA is continuing to innovate new ways to combat the FAA’s decision to unfairly target and categorize model aviation in their zeal to deal with a problem that has failed to manifest itself... despite decades of safe operations by modelers who have been flying as long as the Wright Brothers, themselves. The FAA recently released the proposed rules for Remote ID. These proposed rules are burdensome and would create a troublesome future for the entire model aviation community. To rally against these proposed burdensome regulations AMA has created a coalition. They are asking manufacturers, hobby shops, and like-minded associations to join them and fight back, as a united front, against the proposed rules for Remote ID. Players of Liftoff: Drone Racing will be able to experience the excitement of fast-paced air races on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this year. The PC game Liftoff: FPV Drone Racing was first released in September 2018 as a drone simulation on Steam and continues to enjoy great popularity among enthusiasts of the drone racing sport. This success has resulted in a drone racing game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, that will include some completely new features, to which further details will be announced later this year. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
