FAA, TSA Join AOPA For Airspace Seminar At Saturday AOPA Fly-In

Top officials from the FAA and the TSA will join AOPA President Phil Boyer at the 13th annual AOPA Fly-In and Open House on Saturday. Boyer is hosting his first Fly-In seminar and will turn to the officials to help answer pilots' questions about airspace restrictions around Washington, D.C.

"Between the 15-nm no-fly zone around the National Mall, the air defense identification zone (ADIZ), and frequent changes in the dimensions of P-40 (Camp David), the airspace over metropolitan Washington, D.C. poses a real challenge for any pilot operating in the Mid-Atlantic region," said Boyer.

"During my hangar session, we'll have the director and deputy director of Air Traffic for the FAA, the deputy director of the FAA's Airspace Management Program, and a spokesperson from the TSA that we can turn to for answers."

The AOPA Fly-In and Open House has become the largest one-day event of its kind in the nation. Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the AOPA headquarters and visit one-on-one with AOPA staff.

In addition to Boyer's hangar session, AOPA and the Air Safety Foundation will offer more than a dozen free seminars on topics ranging from single-pilot IFR operations and spatial disorientation, to owning and upgrading your own aircraft, to the aviation humor of Rod Machado.

Out on the ramp, more than two dozen aircraft will be on display, including the grand prize in the AOPA Centennial of Flight Sweepstakes, a fully restored 1940 Waco UPF-7 biplane.

Several ANN staffers will be there... keep an eye out for our coverage this weekend.
