Plattsburgh School Receives FAA Certification

Culmination Of Effort That Began In 2004

The FAA has certified the Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute's general and powerplant programs under FAR Part 147. The school expects the airframe program to be certified later this summer.

The formal presentation of the certificate was made Tuesday.

The Plattsburgh, NY Press Republican reports that the institute is accepting applications for the fall semester. The program is open to high school juniors and seniors from 17 school districts served by the Champlain Valley Technical Education Program.

CV-TEC Principal Jim McCartney says there are a limited number of grants available to students, and the certification makes that funding available to VA members.

The school first began seeking FAA certification in 2004. Classes began at the satellite campus of CV-TEC last September following certification from the New York State Education Department.

Certification efforts on the part of CV-TEC included CV-TEC have included requesting, and has receiving, the non-partisan support of the area's legislators to secure federal and state appropriations. They also had to obtain legislative approvals/variances, and secure the local support necessary to begin implementation of their Aviation Technology Program at their new Satellite Campus location.
