Classic Aero-TV: ‘Have it Your Way!’ – The SPA Panther

From 2014: A New Single-Seat SportPlane Shows Great Potential For Serious Fun

While at the Sport Aviation Expo 2014, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell stopped by to talk with Dan Weseman, the president of Sport Performance Aviation.

Sitting on display was their snappy looking single place light sport airplane that seems to be cut from a different cloth than most other LSA’s on display.

Called the Panther, the airplane is being produced only in a kit version at this time. It is designed for someone to certify as an experimental amateur built airplane that complies with the LSA definition. It’s also designed for the person who wants to fly a sport plane that is truly “sporty.” With such features as folding wings, rollover protection for the pilot, and adjustable seats and rudder pedals, it can tickle the “Walter Mitty” fighter pilot hidden and most of us.

Jim asked lots of questions and got lots of answers about the types of engines that are approved for this airplane, the building time, and what fast build options are available. In this video you’ll see a sweet plane, and get a ton of information about it. And, oh yes, there is a version of the Panther that exceeds LSA requirements and sports up to a 160 hp engine. This plane is intended for fun!
