Swiss aviator Bertrand Piccard and his team are building a fully hydrogen-powered aircraft. The project, titled Climate Impulse, aspires to make a non-stop flight around the world. In doing so, the team hopes to inspire a greener future for aviation. Piccard is a well-known figure in the sustainable aviation industry. In 1999, he and his copilot, Brian Jones, became the first to circumnavigate the globe in a hot-air balloon. The NTSB conducted an investigation of over 500 fatal and nonfatal accidents between 2010 and 2022. Tecnam Sierra Collides With Parked Aircraft On Takeoff

Pilot Taken To Hospital After Accident In Waihi Beach

Around 1:00 pm local time on August 14th, a Tecnam P2002 Sierra crashed into a parked Vans RV-4. The Police and Fire Departments were notified at 1:11 pm, and the Tecnam pilot was taken to a local hospital. The accident occurred at the Waihi Beach Airfield in Athenree, New Zealand. This is a private airstrip operated and managed by the Waihi Beach Flyers.

FAA Contract For BVLOS Operations Goes To uAvionix

Project To Develop Skyway UAS Range In Oklahoma

uAvionix announced it has been awarded a contract by the Oklahoma Aerospace Institute for Research and Education (OAIRE) to develop the Skyway UAS Range near Tulsa. This project will include its deployment of networked Command & Control and Detect & Avoid services to enable uncrewed aircraft operations Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) from node to node on the Skyway. The system will provide those services through the use of uAvionix’s Skyline Cloud-based service, the same system used in the company’s recent FAA exemption for BLVOS flights in North Dakota.

ICAO Three-Letter Designator (3LD) An ICAO 3LD is an exclusive designator that, when used together with a flight number, becomes the aircraft call sign and provides distinct aircraft identification to air traffic control (ATC). ICAO approves 3LDs to enhance the safety and security of the air traffic system. An ICAO 3LD may be assigned to a company, agency, or organization and is used instead of the aircraft registration number for ATC operational and security purposes. An ICAO 3LD is also used for aircraft identification in the flight plan and associated messages and can be used for domestic and international flights. A telephony associated with an ICAO 3LD is used for radio communication.
