Bills Prohibit The FAA From Defining Some Flight Training As “Carrying Persons Or Property For Compensation Or Hire”

In the nick of time; twin bills have been introduced in Congress this week to reverse the policy set forth by the FAA in their July 12 policy memo on flight training in Experimental, Limited, and Primary Category aircraft. In the Senate, S.2458 has been introduced by Sens. James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), John Boozman (R-Arkansas), and Angus King (I-Maine). In the House, Rep. Sam Graves (R-Missouri) is sponsoring H.R.4645. The bills prohibit the FAA from defining flight training in these aircraft as “carrying persons or property for compensation or hire.”

EAA Earns Their Keep By Addressing A Serious Isssue, Speedily

EAA has been granted a 'sweeping exemption' (and it is, thankfully, that) for flight training in Limited Category aircraft that any owner or operator can use. This exemption allows owners of Limited Category warbirds and their associated pilots and partners to continue training in their own aircraft following the disruptive fallout of the FAA interpretation and associated court ruling on operating certain aircraft for “compensation or hire” earlier this year. The exemption is similar to the letter of deviation authority (LODA) being used as a temporary regulatory fix for experimental aircraft. In 1980, Dr. Irvin N Gleim began self-publishing pilot training books. The dozens of titles, as well as Test Prep, audios, and Gleim Online courses, are widely used by pilots to pass FAA pilot knowledge tests and FAA practical (flight) tests all over the world and have had an immense impact on the aviation world. According to his obit, Dr. Gleim regretfully passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, with his family at his side at the age of 78.

AD 2021-14-04 Prompted By A Report That Non-Certified ANCRA Seat Tracks Were Installed On Some Airplanes

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Dassault Aviation Model FALCON 7X airplanes and Model FALCON 2000EX airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that non-certified ANCRA seat tracks were installed on some airplanes and that those seat tracks might not sustain required loads during an emergency landing. This AD requires replacement of certain ANCRA seat tracks with certified (Brownline) seat tracks, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference.
