Sporty's Fills In The Blanks On Breakdown Assistance Program

Goal Is To Keep Pilots From Being Stranded Due To A Breakdown

What roadside assistance has done for drivers, Sporty's Breakdown Assistance Program (BAP) now does for pilots.

The scenario is this: you experience a mechanical breakdown at an airport that is not your own. The Sporty's BAP program is designed to give pilots quick access to a qualified mechanic who can in many cases get you on your way.

Sporty's Pilot Shop VP John Zimmerman told ANN that the BAP connects subscribers with experts "so that you can talk to a knowledgeable A&P/IA who can help you diagnose the problem and get it fixed if you need to. But in many cases diagnose it as a non-flight-safety issue and get you on your way and get you home."

Mike Busch from Savvy Aircraft Maintenance said the goal is to guarantee a 15 minute response time when a subscriber calls for assistance.

Annual pricing for the Breakdown Assistance Program is $149 for single-engine piston aircraft, $199 for piston twins, and $249 for single-engine turbine airplanes.
