Washington State House Approves Aviation-Themed License Plate

Proceeds Would Fund Aviation Development In The State

The lower chamber of the Washington State legislature has approved a bipartisan bill to create an aviation-themed license plate, with proceeds from the sale of the tag being directed towards aviation development in the state.

The Columbia Basin Herald reports that the bill, HB 1400, passed the State House of Representatives 94-4.

The specialty plate would cost Washington State residents $40 dollars initially, with a $30 renewal fee. The state would keep $14 to offset administrative and other costs, and the remainder would go to support aviation infrastructure in the state.

Tom Dent (R), the bill's sponsor, said that the bill was a way to not only raise money for the growth of aviation in the state, which is a major industry there, but also raise awareness of the the importance of aviation to Washington State. "It's bigger than most people realize," he said.

The bill now moves to the State Senate for consideration.
