"Was there no other option than to make this plane turn around above Canada? What was it these people were suspected of by the United States that they couldn't pass through its airspace... and why isn't that information known in Holland?"

Source: A question, submitted to Dutch Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner by legislators Peter van Heemst and Co Verdas. It was just one in a laundry list of things the two lawmakers wanted to know after a KLM aircraft carrying 278 passengers was refused permission to overfly the US at the last minute Friday. The reason? Two Saudi passengers on that aircraft were on a no-fly list. But Dutch authorities said they didn't share that information with the US and are now wondering just how those names fell into US hands. The aircraft was forced to return to Amsterdam. Neither of the suspects was arrested upon landing. Both later returned to Saudi Arabia -- via London.
