Easyjet Eyes Move To Heathrow

Airline Says It Has Plans At Both Heathrow And Gatwick

Easyjet apparently has designs on slots at Heathrow Airport, with a company spokesman saying the low-cost carrier has expansion plans "at both Heathrow and Gatwick" airports.

The airline is already the largest operator at Gatwick.

The U.K. newspaper The Daily Telegraph reports that Easyjet has applied to join a key committee at Heathrow. The committee represents the interests of airlines that operate from the airport.

The move seems to be predicated on a decision to build a new runway at Heathrow, which is already operating at about 98 percent capacity, according to a report in Buying Business Travel. The new runway would make more slots available. Easyjet's interest in Heathrow could factor into the government's decision about which airport to expand.

Heathrow is currently one of only a few primary airports in Europe that Easyjet does not serve, according to the company spokesman.
