United Will Not Be Held Responsible For Passenger-Dragging Incident

DOT Inspector General Completes Investigation Of The Incident

The U.S. DOT office of Inspector General has determined that no enforcement action will be taken against United Airlines for an incident in which a passenger was dragged off an airliner on April 9.

In a letter to the passenger rights advocacy group Flyers Rights, the IG's office said that it had determined that the airline did breach some of the DOT's oversale rules, but an enforcement action is not warranted, according to a report from Aero Times.

The DOT also concluded that there was no indication that the carrier violated the civil rights of the passenger who was physically removed from the airplane by Chicago airport police. "United did not subject any of the passengers on United Express Flight 3411 to unlawful discrimination”, the latter states. “There was no evidence that United discriminated against any of the passengers who were involuntarily denied boarding on Flight 3411 based on their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, or ancestry”.

The DOT did not investigate the actions of the airport security personnel, as they are governed by a different authority.
