CAE Extends Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL) FO Program With JAL

Will Provide Services For An Additional Three Years

CAE announced at the 2016 Asia Pacific Airline Training Symposium that it has extended the Japan Airlines (JAL) Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL) First Officer Program for three additional years to a total of 10 years, effective until October 2023. Under the renewed agreement, 24 additional cadets will be selected to begin MPL training for the Japanese airline.

"At Japan Airlines, we are committed to creating highly competent professional pilots and we have been impressed by the high quality training delivered through the first MPL program, said Shigeki Washio, Vice President of Flight Training & Check Standards, Japan Airlines. "As such, we are pleased to extend the length of the program and train new cadets. As the global training partner, we are convinced that CAE will continue to provide world-class training, helping JAL onboard a new generation of pilots."

"Building on the great success of the first phases of the Japan Airlines (JAL) Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL) First Officer Program, we are delighted to announce that more aspiring professional pilots will be joining this exceptional training program", said Nick Leontidis, CAE Group President, Civil Aviation Training Solutions. "We are honored to extend our relationship that spans over 30 years with our joint venture partner Japan Airlines and are proud to help JAL create more pilots, supporting the need for more competent First Officers in Asia."

In 2013, Japan Airlines selected CAE as its partner of choice for a tailored MPL training program. Since launch, more than 100 cadets have been selected and are undergoing their training as First Officers for Japan Airlines. The first cadets have completed the program in Phoenix in December 2015. The renewal of this contract brings the total cadets enrolled in this innovative program to more than 240.

MPL is the most advanced training and licensing methodology used to develop ab initio students directly into First Officers within a specific commercial airline environment. Today, over 1,000 MPL graduates are flying successfully with their airlines across Asia and Europe.
