Woman Gives Birth On BA Flight

Finally! A 'Good' Diversion

Alas, there's been yet another airliner diversion to tell you about... but this one had nothing to do with a security threat.

Seven-and-a-half-months pregnant -- and with her doctor's blessing -- 28-year-old Rabeb Ahmed was flying aboard a British Airways flight from London to Boston last Saturday. She had no reason to suspect her baby would be arrive early... but the baby had other plans.

With assistance from the crew -- as well as three doctors and a midwife who, fortuitously, were also onboard the plane -- little Nadine was born somewhere over the Atlantic. That, in turn, required the plane to divert to the nearest airport with a hospital nearby... in Halifax.

"I thought they would be mad or upset," Ahmed said of the passengers to CBC, "but everyone was clapping."

The end result? Ahmed gave birth to a healthy 4.5-pound baby girl... and Canada now has one more citizen. You see, while her mother has both American and Egyptian citizenship... Nadine is a full-fledged Canadian citizen by birth. Ahmed said because of that.. she will likely return to Canada in the near future.
