FAA Adds Two More SportPlanes to '51% List'

The fine folks of FAA's AIR-220 office tell ANN that two more SportPlanes have joined the "51% List."

The first aircraft to qualify is the Murphy Aircraft 3500 MOOSE (Fast Build and Standard) has been evaluated by the Transport Canada (Mr. J. Goguillot, Minister's Delegate-Recreational Aviation) on May 10, 2002, and submitted to the FAA and found to be eligible with respect to the "major portion" requirement 549.5 of Chapter 549 of the Airworthiness Manual--"the major portion of the aircraft (more than 50%) is fabricated from raw material and assembled by an individual or a group of individuals on a noncommercial, non-production basis for educational or recreational purposes."

Also; the RANS, Inc., S-7S Courier Aircraft kit, defined as S7S Quick Build Packing List, dated 1/7/03, and S-7S Standard Packing Listed, dated 1/6/03 were found eligible 01/24/03 by the FAA in accordance with 14 CFR 21.191(g) and FAA Order 8130.2D.

Therefore, the FAA says that an aircraft built from one of the kits identified in this message is eligible for airworthiness certification provided all necessary regulatory requirements are met.
