Better Satellite Weather Comes to Advance Flight Systems
SiriusXM and Advanced Flight Systems, a Dynon Company, announced an agreement that will see the inclusion of SiriusXM Aviation weather to their line of AF-5000/6000 Series Avionics.

Operators with a compatible AF-series of panel will require a corresponding satellite weather receiver, but the modularity of AFS kit means integration is much easier than traditional installs. Future users will have an even easier time adding SiriusXM to their panel, thanks to the ADVANCEDPANEL program. Custom panels can be pre-wired and prearranged with everything as ‘plug n’ play’ as possible, giving experimental aircraft avionic capabilities once held exclusively by heavy jets.
Those who fly down low can continue to make do with ADS-B based weather systems, but they’re a barebones solution when stacked against SiriusXM, according to the brand. They remind operators that their satellite-based system has no line-of-sight restrictions or altitude limitations, with seamless North American coverage and continuous updates throughout the flight.
“This is an exciting opportunity for pilots who up to this point have not had the option to use SiriusXM Aviation directly on their avionics. They will now be able to fly confidently knowing SiriusXM Aviation delivers superior weather and related information helping them to make the best decisions,” said Radhika Giri, SiriusXM SVP of Emerging Business.

“A good pilot appreciates redundant systems, and this satellite-based solution provides pilots with weather service when ADS-B may not be available, such as when on the ground, in mountainous terrain, or in Southern Canada” added Rob Hickman, Advanced Flight Systems President.
A receiver with new XMWX weather plans is expected to launch with the Advanced Flight Systems AF-5000/6000 Series in the coming months, with additional integrations to follow later in the year. The Advanced Flight System crew brought a demo unit to AirVenture, showing off an AF-6600 EFIS at their booth in Hangar D. SiriusXM is similarly advertising their own, over at Tent 318.
