Lee Bottom Flying Field Brings Back 'Sinful Sundays'

First Of The Summer's Monthly Events To Be Held June 12

There are a lot of business aspects to flying, but let's be honest: most of us started flying because it's just a whole heck of a lot of fun. With that in mind, Lee Bottom Flying Field (64I) in southern Indiana is bringing back its popular "Sinful Sundays" beginning in the middle of June. On their blog "NORDO News," Rich and Ginger Davidson say that each of the Sinful Sunday events last year attracted at least 100 visiting aircraft.

"(W)eather permitting, food will be available from 12-2 with the ice creams treats running from 12-3 or until we run out," the Davidsons write on the blog. "The feature shakes and sundaes will be strawberry but other flavors will be available.  If you have never been to a Sinful Sunday, you are missing out on some great fun. If you have been to a Sinful Sunday then you know exactly how much fun, relaxing, and filled with aviation they are.  Either way, we hope you are able to make it."

Originally started in 2004 as a destination for local pilots to attend after church on Sunday, the monthly events have drawn pilots and planes from further away over the past couple of years.

Scheduled for the 2nd Sunday of every month (no rain date) during the months of June, July, and August, and each features a "sinful" dessert. "There might be Hot Fudge Sundaes, Shakes, Sodas, or whatever else strikes our fancy," according to the Lee Bottom website. "These events are very relaxed in nature and were created with the intention of giving you a place to go for a Sunday afternoon flight."

Rich and Ginger say they have also found that if you mention "ice cream," it is usually easy to entice someone else to go with you. We don't doubt that's the case.
