Embraer Starts Building Austria’s First C-390 Millennium

Next-Gen Multi-mission Aircraft Enhances Austrian Air Force Capabilities

Embraer announced the start of structural assembly on the first C-390 Millennium destined for delivery to Austria. The milestone first step was celebrated during an official ceremony held at the Gaviao Peixoto production facility with a delegation of representatives from the Austrian government in attendance.

Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security said, “We’re thrilled to start production of first aircraft for Austria and we look forward to delivering the first aircraft to the Austrian Air Force soon. The C-390 is setting new standards as a medium airlift, truly multi-mission aircraft. It offers an unbeatable combination of the latest technology, reliability, and low operational costs, with unmatched performance.”

The C-390 has a max payload of 26 tons, a top speed of 470 knots, and state-of-the-art systems. It is a medium-lift, multi-mission aircraft with a rear ramp and robust landing gear to enable operations on unpaved runways or other challenging surfaces.

The Millennium is capable of performing a wide range of civilian and military missions including cargo transport, personnel and vehicles, peacekeeping or special operations, humanitarian support, medical evacuation, firefighting, search and rescue, disaster management, and air-to-air refueling.

When the aircraft is configured with air-to-air refueling equipment it is designated the KC-390 and can be both tanker and receiver from another KC-390 via the pods installed under the wings.

Since the aircraft entered service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, Embraer has sold the K/C-390 to a variety of countries including Portugal, Hungary, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Republic of Korea, Sweden, Slovakia, and an Undisclosed Customer.
