Two Fatally Injured In Hang Gliding Accident

Tow Truck Driver Thought Aircraft Had Been Released Before Making Turn

Two people, one of them a 12-year-old boy, were fatally injured Friday when the hang glider they were flying went down while being towed aloft.

The accident occurred at a dry lake bed near Jean, NV southwest of Las Vegas, according to a report appearing on Fox News. The hang glider was being towed aloft by a truck when the driver made an abrupt turn. He later told police that he thought that the glider had been released from its tether, an operation usually performed by the pilot.

An attempt was made to transport the boy to a hospital in Las Vegas by some who had been at the accident scene, and they flagged down a Nevada Highway Patrol Officer. The officer reportedly tried to give the boy emergency medical treatment, but medical personnel who arrived on the scene later said the boy had passed.
