Three Fatally Injured In New Year's Day Mid-Air Collision

Planes Collided Near McKinney, TX Airport

Three people were fatally injured in a mid-air collision near Aero Country Airport (T31) in McKinney, TX on New Year's Day. One of the casualties was an Air Force Academy cadet, according to news reports.

Television station KXAS reports that, according to the FAA, the accident occurred on Saturday evening near the airport. One of the planes went down on a nearby road, while the other came down at a self-storage business.

Tim and Gregory Barber were on board one of the aircraft. Greg was a retired Air Force Pilot, while his son Tim was a freshman at the Air Force Academy, according to the report. The third person has been identified as Robert Navar of Frisco, TX, according to television station KDFW.

The NTSB said that the planes involved were a Piper PA-28R and a Luscombe.

A witness said that the airplanes were making a turn, and one slid into the other.

T31 is an uncontrolled airfield.
