Sonex Aircraft will collaborate with High Performance Aircraft Group to showcase the SubSonex Personal Jet.

The SubSonex debuted at this year's Pylon Racing Seminar (also known as "Rookie School") June 7-10 at Reno Stead airport in preparation for the National Championship Air Races this September. The SubSonex was taken through various flight scenarios by three-time Reno Gold champion Pete Zaccagnino. "The plane has been approved for racing, and now we have to get to work in preparation for training enough pilots to create a new race," Zaccagnino said. "I believe we got eight flights in and everyone loved it. It was a blast on the course." A 1962 Lockheed Jetstar once owned by The King of Rock & Roll is back on the auction block about a year after being sold for $430,000. The online auction house IronPlanet lists the jet as a, "Custom private jet personally owned by Elvis Presley, the late American singer, complete with red velvet seats, gold plated accents, and red plush carpet.” "Elvis’ Jet has been privately owned for more than 35 years, becoming a tourist attraction where it sat on a runway in Roswell, New Mexico in the US. The jet is the only one of the three planes belonging to Elvis Presley, which is still privately owned, while the other two are owned by the Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Red Bull Air Race pilot Kirby Chambliss has come up with what may be a unique solution to the problem of how to practice a pylon-style race... without pylons. Earlier this month, he was seen over his hometown of Phoenix, AZ flying among a group of hot air balloons as he might during a race. Chambliss practiced his racing technique around the inflated balloons before they were launched, and once they left the ground, he climbed to a higher altitude and put on an impromptu one-man air show. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
