Announces Cessation Of Publications
The proliferation of Electronic Flight Bags and moving maps on so many new avionics products has spelled the end of one specialty company in the aviation industry.
DuraCharts, a company that produced analog sectional charts on a special high-quality paper designed to withstand multiple foldings in the cockpit, has announced that it will no longer be producing the charts as of March 21.
In an email forwarded to us by multiple ANN readers, the company said "As of March 21st, DuraCharts will stop producing new charts due to low sales. We will continue to sell the existing charts that we have in inventory on our websites. If you have purchased a "Next Edition" chart, you will receive a refund to either your credit card or a check will be sent to you.
"We are sorry that this has happened, but we have come to the end of a feasible business to sell paper charts. If you have any questions about your account, you can email john@duracharts.com or call John Parlett at (706) 993-9741.
"Note: All accounts will be deleted, including contact and credit card information once the business is shut down."
The news was greeted with sadness from users of the service. "(They) had a great product that I will miss very much," wrote one who forwarded the DuraChart email to ANN. "I might be old school, but paper charts have not run out of battery, unable to read in direct sunlight, get too hot sitting on the dash and stop working, or turned blue with some strange error message on me yet."
"I used, and REALLY liked, DuraCharts (sectionals printed on HIGH-quality paper)," wrote another who also forwarded the message. "I am honestly sorry to see them go."
