Blacklist Lifted: Buraq Airlines Can Fly To EU Again

Says Information Was 'Inaccurate'

Libya's Buraq Airlines says it's been removed from the EU's blacklist of carriers too dangerous to fly over Europe.

Representatives with Buraq told All Africa media the restriction was mostly aimed at its cargo operations. Airline exec MD Mohamed Boubeidha added the reports upon which the ban was based weren't accurate.

As Aero-News reported last month, the carrier has since axed its cargo ops in the EU.

Now that Buraq is off the blacklist... the airline plans to expand service between Europe and North Africa, in conjunction with Libyan Arab Airlines.

The EU blacklist lists 92 airlines it says don't meet international safety standards. It was started after last year's summer of crashes in Europe and the Mideast. Most of the airlines affected are based in Africa.
