Port Canaveral Helicopter Tours To Continue

Port Commissioners Unanimously Approve The Plan

A helicopter tour operator who faced stiff opposition from local residents and businesses in Port Canaveral, FL last summer has been given unanimous approval to continue flying over the area by the port's regulating body.

The approval came after Florida Air Tours founder and owner Mark Grainger made adjustments in his flight patterns to accommodate concerns expressed by the local residents, particularly those living on the beach. Florida Today reports that Port Authority Chairman Tom Weinberg said that the adjustments worked in reducing noise for beachside residents.

The tours currently operate from the Victory Casino Cruise parking lot east of the port Cove area, however port officials said that possible development plans for that part of the port could affect Grainger's operation.

Grainger said that his future plans include becoming one of the tour options for passengers on cruise ships calling on Port Canaveral.
