Lancair To Provide Colombian Air Force With Training Aircraft

Modified Legacy FGs To Be Built In-Country

Kit plane manufacturer Lancair International announced Tuesday it will provide to the Colombian Aviation Industry Corporation (CIAC) 25 aircraft for use by the Columbian Air Force. The modified Legacy FG aircraft, known as the "Synergy", will be used for primary flight training of Colombian Air Force Pilots.

The Synergy sports a fifteen percent bigger wing, leading edge cuffs, and ventral fin, all in an effort to make the aircraft's flight characteristics more docile for training, while at the same time maintaining the Lancair heritage of performance and efficiency.

The new Colombian trainers are powered by Lycoming certified IO390 four-cylinder engines.

"This initial agreement is a result of over two years of negotiations between Lancair International, with its Colombian based partner, SudAir Corporation, and CIAC," said Lancair CEO Joe Bartels. "We will provide molds, fixtures, jigs, materials, technical support, and composite training to CIAC for purposes of its construction of the initial twenty-five aircraft."

Current plans call for the completion of one aircraft per month in Colombia, beginning August 15, 2009 and thereafter increasing to two per month by the end of the year.
