Avidyne Adds Synthetic Vision And More To IFD-Series

Integrated Synthetic Vision Now Available For All GA Aircraft

Avidyne Corporation has announced that they are making Synthetic Vision (SVS) accessible for all general aviation aircraft by making it available on every version of their growing line of IFD-Series GPS FMS systems.

“Many aircraft owners have wanted to add reliable Synthetic Vision in their panels, but it has either been unavailable or cost-prohibitive for their particular aircraft,” said Dan Schwinn, Avidyne’s President & CEO. “Now, any aircraft owner upgrading their old panel-mounted navigator to an Avidyne IFD will get a modern hybrid touch-screen WAAS GPS, a place to view ADS-B traffic and weather, and a gorgeous Synthetic Vision display all in the same panel space.”

“Avidyne now offers six versions of our IFD Series GPS FMS systems and all of them offer Synthetic Vision,” said Mitch Biggs, Avidyne's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "With integrated Synthetic Vision and integrated, Bluetooth and WiFi, no other navigators offer so much functionality, situational awareness, and ease of use.”

With Avidyne's new Release 10.2 software upgrade, their IFD540 and IFD440 GPS FMS systems will be able to display exocentric “in-trail” Synthetic Vision views of the host aircraft, along with overlay of flightplan, color-contoured terrain, obstacles, full color 3D traffic and terrain warnings. Avidyne also announced the new IFD410, a GPS-only version of the IFD440, which also offers exocentric Synthetic Vision capability.

In addition, Avidyne introduced the new IFD550 FMS/GPS/NAV COM and IFD545 GPS-only FMS systems. The IFD550 and IFD545 have all the same functionality of the current IFD540 and previously-announced IFD510 respectively, but with the addition of an integrated Attitude Reference System (ARS). The ARS enables the display of dynamic Synthetic Vision display for full-motion three-dimensional “out-the-window” as well as exocentric “in-trail” views of the aircraft and nearby terrain, obstacles, traffic and terrain. The IFD550/545 also give pilots have the ability to toggle SynVis off and get a traditional blue-over-brown attitude display, as well as overlay of Horizontal and Vertical Deviation Indicators, a Total Velocity Vector (TVV)/Flight Path Marker, and adjustable field of regard.

Synthetic Vision is part of the upcoming Release 10.2 software, which will be available later this year, pending final certification. The new IFD550 and IFD545 with ARS, and the GPS-only IFD510 and IFD410 models will be available at that same time.
