TieDown Your Airplane With SlideDown

SlideDown To Secure Your Airplane With The “No Tie” Tiedown

Mr. Sal Corio, founder of SlideDown, took a few moments out of a busy day at the recent Oshkosh 2022 to talk about his airplane tiedown product, SlideDown.

Designed and engineered by a Mr. Corio who is also a pilot, has been flying since the age of 14, and having visited many fields beyond his home airport, soon discovered that he was at the mercy of what was not there…tiedowns with ropes in good condition that he could confidently use…in addition to “the best knot” to use when faced with few options. As an avid aviator, you might have found yourself, just passing through, only to discover that while ground anchors were available, you had a heck of a time snaking that tiedown rope you took (you did take a spare set of tiedowns with you on that cross-country, right?) through the ground anchors which, knowing your luck, was submerged in water, or obscured by some other ‘natural’ phenomena.

Mr. Corio believed “there had to be an easier way to tiedown an airplane”, and so the SlideDown was born. This contraption allows you to confidently secure your transient or permanently ramped airplane with little effort and no tying of special or confusing knots, using available ground anchors. Of course, if you so choose, you can “creatively secure” anything else that does not involve airplanes such as boats, RV’s, and other toys! It is available in two sizes 1/4 inch and 7/16 inch diameter ropes manufactured with polythene inner, a braided outer layer, and sporting powder-coated aluminum slides with vinyl-coated hooks. A veritable rainbow of eight color choices are available (black, orange, yellow, red, blue, bluw/white, red/white, green/blue), as is the option for customization by the addition of a logo of your choice or aircraft registration number.

For approximately $70, you get a complete set of three to tie-down an airplane, and also a zipper bag in which to store them when not in use. For those of us who never made it through the scouts or spent any time in the marine world, the SlideDown makes quick work of “tying down” or securing your airplane in less than a minute (assuming they’re already ‘sized’ for the appropriate area). If your chariot is a low-wing airplane, then you might want to taker a few moments to cinch them in such a way that excess cord is not lying on the ground. It’s simply a matter of preference!
