Experimental Helo Down In Reno

Pilot Fatally Injured In Nevada Helicycle Accident

A homebuilt single-seat helicycle reportedly went down Sunday on property owned by Reno Stead Airport, resulting in the fatal injury of the pilot.

The accident occurred about 1210 local time, according to airport authorities. The Reno Journal Gazette reports that airport spokesman Brian Kulpin said there were two helicopters flying together Sunday morning when one pilot lost sight of the other. The second pilot "flew back around and discovered the wreckage and called in the accident," he said.

Kuplin said that the aircraft that went down may have been on a test flight.

The pilot was identified Monday as 46-year-old Michael Seeliger. The paper reports that his city of residence was still unclear. He was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
